Relay draws nearly 150 volunteers for cancer studyAmerican Cancer Society also raised $75,000.Staff Writer
Almost 500 people participated in the American Cancer Society's annual Relay For Life at Yorba Linda Middle School on Aug. 8. Yorba Linda, the only site in Orange County to sign up for a cancer prevention study, drew 146 people who volunteered for the 20-year study. The study, which will have about 500,000 participants, will examine environmental effects on the development of cancer. More than $75,000 was raised during the 24-hour event for the society's programs of patient support, public education advocacy and cancer research."We are delighted with the support of this event in our community," said Erica Aronson, 25, volunteer chair for the Relay For Life event. "We are grateful to all the participants, walkers, survivors, donors and volunteers for their contribution to the fight against cancer."
