Rotary Funds Third Youth Club
Press Release
November 30, 2007
Yorba Linda's youth have another positive place to learn and have fun thanks to the generosity of the Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary Club. A $35,000 donation to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Brea–Placentia–Yorba Linda enabled the organization to open its third school site within the city at Yorba Linda Middle School. The donation paid for computers and recreation equipment and helped refurbish the two classrooms that now house the satellite club. A ceremonial check presentation and ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the site on Friday, November 30, where Youth Members of the Boys and Girls Club, Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotarians, Directors of the Boys and Girls Club, City of Yorba Linda Staff, and Members of the Chamber of Commerce gathered to celebrate. The site officially opened on September 4, the first day of the current school year. The Yorba Linda Middle School site offers a place to do homework, receive tutoring assistance, and participate in a variety of recreational activities. The Club opens at the end of the school day and closes at 6:30 p.m. "Because of the fundraising efforts of the members of the Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary Club, there is one more safe, fun place for kids to go after school and during the summer months in our town," said Vince Campion, president of the Rotary Club. "The Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary Club has sponsored three school sites within the city over the past four years. The other Yorba Linda sites are located at Mabel Paine Elementary School and Bernardo Yorba School. These three clubs provide thousands of service hours per year to our greatest resource – our kids." |
