What better way to spend a day than with friends and beautiful flowers! Members of the Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary club were able to do just that when they helped decorate the 2014 Rotary International Float, " Engage Rotary- Change Lives".
Armed with buckets of glue, seeds and pallets of flowers we (Cyndi Hulin, John Ditty, Jan Horton and our foreign exchange student from France Lea Suttee) climbed precarious scaffolding to decorate a beautiful float seen around the world. As we balanced ourselves, we painted with sticky, stinky glue and applied white mums on the engine roof and created cupcake frosting. Seeds were placed to form “gumdrops” and outline the engine.
Meanwhile, Kim Nager used her horticultural skills to sort the gorgeous flowers used on all the floats! What a great job!
Debra Marks, our event coordinator, helped supervise a group of kids that were decorating the float as well as spot decorators as they climbed and descended the scaffolding.
Fellow Rotarian, Herb Trumboldt was there as past District Governor and member of the Rose Parade Committee.
Special thanks to Rotarian Gene Hernandez for arranging for our participation in this event!
What a memorable experience! We all had glue and chlorophyll under our fingernails for days but the memories will last a lifetime!
