Updates of Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary Making a Difference!
Hello and good day from all of us at Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary!
Earlier this year, we made the tough decision to postpone our 2021 Lobsterfest, normally held in May, until later in the year to October. We regret to inform you that this event planned for October 9 has been cancelled. The decision was made due to the size of the event, restrictions in place throughout the year and simply out of an abundance of caution for our valued patrons in attendance.
We have every intention to proceed back on schedule this coming May of 2022.
Please mark your calendars for Saturday, May 21, 2022 when we intend to make up for lost time and get back to hosting the biggest party of the year in Yorba Linda…Lobsterfest!
Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary presents, Lobsterfest!
Saturday, May 21st, 2022
Yorba Linda Community Center
While our annual Lobsterfest fund-raiser has been rescheduled, we have other plans in the works for 2021! Please stay tuned for additional details on our efforts to serve the community and the globe throughout this year.
Thank you for your continued support!
Yours in Rotary Service,
Mike Shanahan
President 2021-2022
Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary donates $50,000 toward the Misting Rock and Children's Area of the new Yorba Linda Library!  The check was presented at the Dedication Ceremony for Yorba Linda Library and Cultural Arts Center on Friday evening, November 13, 2020.  Here's a picture of the plaque posted on the Misting Rock, the heart of the Paseo between the library and the cultural arts buildings.
Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary financially supported this small school in Las Pinas, Philippines located in a high poverty area hard hit by COVID 19.  Hotspots and tablets enable students to access education despite schools being shut down.
Rotary dollars at work in the Philippines!
Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary did a drive up celebration in honor of Deputy Hana Robertson as the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.  We presented the Deputy with her individual plaque as well as a perpetual plaque that will be on display at the station house.  Congratulations to Deputy Hana Robertson and thank you to all the officers for the work they do.
Our club made a financial contribution of $2,000 to support this project, which ultimately led to the assembly of nearly 70,000 medical quality face shields.  We received 1,000 of these shields to distribute to medical facilities that we as a club felt might need them the most.
The following facilities received shields from Yorba Linda Sunrise.
  • 200 shields went to City of Hope Cancer Center in Newport Beach
  • 250 shields went to Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC)
  • 250 shields went to Placentia Linda Hospital
  • 100 shields went to the Brookdale Senior Living and Memory Care center on Imperial Highway
  • 75 shields went to ActivCare Memory Care center on Valley View Ave
  • 50 shields went to Sunrise Assisted Living center on Lakeview Ave
  • 50 shields went to Eastern Star Senior Living center on Bastanchury Road
  • 25 shields went to Yorba Linda Food for Families
    • While YLFFF is not a medical center, we felt that their volunteers who interact with the community in such a critical way with their food distribution efforts required some additional protection the same as those serving in the medical care fields
Thank you to everyone who helped with the assembly of the shields.  This was a wonderful project that started with an idea from a Fullerton Rotarian and it has taken off around the world.
